There have been some fine movies released in the last year that will soon be available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital download.
If you haven’t caught these movies in the theater, then here’s your chance to own or rent one this month!
If you haven’t heard of Deadpool yet, then you’ve probably been hiding under a strange rock that still somehow gets wi-fi, or you simply have confused it with the last Dirty Harry sequel and refuse to believe that anything else could carry the title.
The gun-toting Deadpool is, in a way, a remedy for the stagnant superhero movie of late, in that the film is both incredibly funny, and also has an emotional side to it that actually resonates with the audience.
It also doesn’t hurt that the film is just self-aware enough to add to the picture rather than become a parody of itself.
Sure, Leo screamed and cried enough in this one to finally earn his long overdue Oscar, but Leo is hardly the main star of this movie at all. All the credit goes to the unforgiving wilderness, which serves as the real main character. There are many things about this film that, if subtracted, would have left us with a very different picture.
The film is a brutal character study of what happens when a man is pitted against the wilderness, and through sheer force of will, manages to overcome.
In another well received Coen brothers film, a struggling studio executive tries to save the studio by creating an epic sword and sandals film. Instead, their main actor gets kidnapped and ransomed for 100k. Admittedly, we’ll be renting this one too. Until then, watch Fargo.
